Meet Our Speakers:
👤Ravi Rajani, Speaker & Author of Relationship currency
🎙️Lindsey Schultz, Our Host, CEO of MRC Recruiting.
In this Ore-atory conversation, Lindsey welcomes friend and communication coach Ravi Rajani, author of Relationship Currency: Five Communication Habits for Limitless Influence and Business Success. Together they dig into the human side of leadership, communication, and trust, with clear throughlines for mining leaders, recruiters, and technical experts navigating growth.
They begin with charisma and listening. Ravi reframes charisma as the ability to make others feel significant in your presence, not accolades or showmanship. That shift puts listening, presence, and emotional attunement at the core of impactful leadership. Lindsey adds that the most magnetic people she knows are receptive, they give others space, and they leave people feeling seen.
Habit 1: Transform Your Story
Habit 1 tackles the labels we wear. “I am a leader” or “I am an entrepreneur” can become cages that drive fear-based decisions. Ravi suggests opening identity: “I am someone who leads a team in this season,” which creates room to pursue fulfillment without feeling like you are moving backward.
This hits home in mining, where technical standouts are promoted into management and later realize they are most alive in deep technical work. Lindsey coaches candidates to rebrand intentionally, drop misaligned labels, and tell stories that match who they are now.
Habit 2: Ask Conscious Questions
Habit 2 centers on empathy with Ravi’s What, Feel, Who method. Instead of “How are you?” try: “The last time we talked you were moving, you felt stressed because your daughter was anxious about the change, how is she settling in?”
You show you care about what they are emotionally invested in, and you build trust.
Ravi also shares his ASI framework for compliments: authenticity, specificity, impact. Instead of generic praise like “great presentation,” meaningful recognition reinforces desired behaviors, builds loyalty, and helps people feel truly seen.
Habit 3: Unearth Your Charisma
Habit 3 expands on what charisma actually means and what it does not. Ravi explains that charisma is not about being the loudest person in the room, collecting accolades, or performing confidence. It is about making people feel significant in your presence.
That means charisma is less about speaking and more about presence. Leaders who ask thoughtful questions, hold space, listen fully, and offer genuine acknowledgment create trust faster than those trying to impress.
Ravi warns about the danger of surface-level charisma, people who appear polished and magnetic in public but lack congruency one-on-one. True charisma requires alignment between how you show up on stage and how you show up behind closed doors.
He also shares that specific compliments activate the same part of the brain as financial rewards. A genuine acknowledgment like, “That story you shared about imposter syndrome made me rethink how I lead,” creates connection and influence far more than generic praise ever could.
For leaders, charisma is not performance. It is intentionality, consistency, and helping people feel like they matter.
Habit 4: Tell Stories That Inspire Change
Habit 4 gives leaders a practical arc: context, conflict, change, conclusion, and a delivery frame: hook, story, impact.
Use a personal story to make the audience feel significant, then connect the moral to the specific problem they face and the action you want them to take.
Lindsey credits Ravi’s coaching for making speaking feel natural and useful, and she now starts every talk with hook, story, impact.
Habit 5: Become the Trusted Guide
Habit 5 means thinking long term, reducing reactive, scarcity-driven behavior, and helping others get what they want without self-interest.
Lindsey sees this daily in recruiting. Candidates who search from scarcity often recreate the same misfit. She now says no more often, refers out when misaligned, and plays the long game.
Ravi offers grounding questions:
-
Would my 80-year-old self be proud of today’s choices?
-
If I repeated last week this week, who would I become?
-
Where will I move from thinking to declaring?
These questions pull leaders out of autopilot and back into intentional action.
Parenthood threads through the episode as a crash course in regulation, presence, and caring about what others care about, skills that translate directly to leading teams and clients in a fast, noisy industry.
The pair close with a return to the timeless: relationship currency, handwritten notes, real conversations, and trust built one intentional touch at a time.
