Reports to: Director, Sites & Project Management
About the Opportunity
Our client is a restoration and remining enterprise that sees mine waste as an opportunity, not a liability. They build regenerative systems that reclaim minerals, restore ecosystems, and revitalize communities, all while supporting the circular economy and the energy transition.
They're looking for a Senior Processing & Project Engineer to manage and optimize mineral reprocessing projects across North America and beyond. This role sits at the center of their mission of turning waste into opportunity. You'll draw on a strong technical foundation to interpret geochemistry, mineralogy, and historic site data, shape key project assumptions, and lead both initial and long term project design and development.
This is a 12 month, full time contract role. It's remote with field travel as required, and can be based anywhere in North America, with western provinces or states preferred.
What You'll Do
Project Management

• Plan and implement project management principles and standards across Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies for mineral reprocessing projects
• Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, technical scope, and deliverables for process related work packages
• Draft and implement health, safety, and environment controls
• Source, evaluate, and manage engineering consulting, material testing, and construction contractors
• Draft and negotiate scopes of work and service agreements with third party vendors
• Coordinate design reviews with engineering consultants and EPC contractors
• Maintain and organize project data to support inquiries, presentations, and analysis
• Analyze and interpret geological, metallurgical, and engineering data to support waste stream assessments and recovery strategies
• Maintain and update relational databases for the project portfolio
• Liaise with internal teams, clients, regulatory bodies, and local and Indigenous communities to ensure transparency and compliance

Process Design & Optimization

• Develop and validate process flowsheets for tailings remining and mineral recovery, incorporating metallurgical test results and operational constraints
• Specify major equipment and systems in collaboration with vendors, consultants, and internal technical teams
• Ensure design compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards
• Analyze testing and operational data to identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements to throughput, recovery, and energy efficiency
• Evaluate trade offs between capital investment and operating cost reductions for reprocessing project designs

Economic Evaluation & Financial Modeling

• Build comprehensive models to evaluate project feasibility, incorporating capital costs, operating costs, recovery rates, commodity pricing, and discount rates
• Integrate geological and metallurgical data into economic assessments to ensure realistic project valuation assumptions
• Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses to understand the impact of key project variables
• Update models regularly with actual performance data, revised cost estimates, and market conditions
• Validate assumptions against operational and testing results, adjusting forecasts accordingly
• Maintain version control and documentation for auditability and stakeholder review

Field & Operational Support

• Perform field visits to potential sites to evaluate features relevant to investment decisions
• Support on-site testing, pilot plant set up, commissioning, and start up planning, including test protocols and performance guarantees
• Support testing programs and new technology reviews

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
• 5-8+ years of experience in mineral processing operations, and in the design and development of mineral processing projects
• Willingness and ability to travel to field sites across Canada, the US, and potentially globally
• Hands on experience with material and metallurgical testing programs, sample shipment, sample campaign logic, and material flows
• Working knowledge of QA/QC protocols in metallurgical sampling and testing program execution
• Proven ability to work in remote and challenging environments, including Arctic conditions and high altitude terrain
• Proficiency in process simulation software such as METSIM or HSC Chemistry
• Experience managing contractors and negotiating service agreements
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills
• Comfortable leading safety meetings and maintaining high safety standards in field operations
