Hydrogeologist / Water Specialist
Reports to: Water Resources Manager

About the Opportunity
Water touches every part of a mining project, from early studies through closure. Our client is looking for a Hydrogeologist / Water Specialist to bring that expertise to a major project team, supporting groundwater and surface water management across studies, field investigations, and project execution.
You'll help shape water management strategies, support hydrogeologic modeling and analysis, and make sure water-related risks, costs, and operational requirements are understood and built into project planning. It's a role with real influence, on a team that treats safety and responsible stewardship as core values rather than slogans.

What You'll Do
Hydrogeologic Analysis & Technical Support

• Perform hydrogeologic assessments, including groundwater and surface water analysis, to support project studies and design.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret hydrogeologic data, including groundwater levels, flow systems, water quality, and hydrologic conditions.
• Support the development and application of hydrogeologic and hydrologic models to evaluate site conditions and project scenarios.
• Contribute to planning and design analyses, with recommendations on dewatering, water management, and closure strategies.
• Champion responsible water stewardship practices aligned with regulatory requirements and company commitments.

Water Management & Project Integration

• Support development of site-wide water management plans, including water balance, handling, storage, and reuse strategies.
• Collaborate with mine engineering, geology, geotechnical, environmental, permitting, and operations teams to integrate water management into project design.
• Evaluate how mine design and operational activities affect groundwater and surface water systems.
• Identify risks and opportunities related to water management, including cost, schedule, and operational impacts.

Modeling, Data Management & Reporting

• Support the development, calibration, and review of hydrogeologic models.
• Prepare technical reports, studies, and documentation covering groundwater basins, water systems, and project water strategies.
• Ensure hydrogeologic and water quality data are accurately collected, maintained, and applied to support project decisions.

Regulatory Compliance & Support

• Support compliance with applicable water management regulations, permits, and approvals.
• Assist in preparing regulatory submissions and technical documentation.
• Provide technical input to support engagement with regulators and internal stakeholders.

Contract & Consultant Coordination

• Support scope development and technical review of consultant work related to hydrogeology and water management.
• Review technical deliverables for alignment with project requirements, standards, and objectives.

What You Bring
Education

• Bachelor's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional designation (e.g., P.G. or P.E.), or the ability to acquire one, is an asset.

Experience

• 5+ years in hydrogeology, ideally within mining or heavy industrial environments.
• Hands-on work with groundwater and surface water systems, including water well design, hydraulic flow, and water balance concepts.
• Familiarity with hydrogeologic and hydrologic modeling techniques; experience developing or supporting models is preferred.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for water management in mining environments.
• Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports and studies for internal and external stakeholders.
