Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Project General Manager is responsible for the safe delivery of capital projects within the established scopes, budgets and schedules.

The Project General Manager will deliver the flagship project through the project evaluation, construction, and operation-transition phase, through the following milestones:
  • Successful construction and delivery of the Mine
  • Develop and establish management procedures and systems
  • Build and develop an effective project team to deliver the project aligned with the objectives set forth within the project scope
  • Timely delivery of all required regulatory, operational and construction permits
  • Development and implementation of relevant auditable management plans
  • Establish and maintain social acceptance for project development

    The role will oversee all aspects of project evaluation and development, including:
  • Engineering and economic studies required for internal and external requirements;
  • Implement measures to comply with financing requirements such as EP4 or IFC conditions;
  • Oversee local community relations and guide interaction with local governmental authorities
  • Responsible for ensuring permits required to perform the project execution plan are received on time, and ensure project regulatory compliance;
  • Build a strong team to perform basic and detail engineering, facilities construction, and mine development;
  • Manage and communicate a clear vision of the project’s objectives and motivate the project team to achieve them; create a project environment that enables peak performance by team members.

Main Responsibilities
  • Directs and coordinates all site activities while demonstrating leadership in preserving the health and safety of all personnel (staff and contractors);
  • Provide clear expectations on performance in SHEC by setting objectives in SHEC for all employees and contractors;
  • Take responsibility for the safety process establishment during construction, startup and production;
  • Use extensive mining operations experience, leadership skills, critical thinking and creative problem-solving ability, and sound business judgment to develop, implement, and execute the site’s strategic business goals;
  • Responsible for successfully delivering project objectives regarding safety, schedule, and budgets;
  • Ensure site maintenance functions comply with the world-class maintenance plans, standards, and procedures to ensure maximum economic life and long-term productivity for processes plants, mobile equipment and infrastructure;
  • Ensure effective and efficient allocation of the operational sustaining PP&E capital budget within the Company’s risk management framework;
  • Communicate with the COO and Corporate executive management regarding  operations, including production concerning established targets, budgeting, business challenges, and potential risks;
  • Provide effective leadership, performance management, career development, and succession planning of team personnel;
  • Empower managers to ensure their employees are trained and held accountable for roles.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and qualifications in Mining or an associated field;
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience is preferable with U/G mines;
  • Minimum of 8 years of senior management experience in Mining;
  • Experience in project management of complete facilities such as processing plants, underground mine development, and infrastructure.

Skills & Special Knowledge
  • Strong commitment to safety;
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time, to schedule and budget to owner’s parameters, including a good understanding of project management frameworks;
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a multidisciplinary project team on
  • complex projects with responsibility for outcomes;
  • Develop and maintain project programs, change schedules, scoping documents, risk assessments, management plans, budgets, and issues registers;
