Senior Mine Engineer

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Denver based Mining Engineer will be a key member of a dynamic team engaged in modernizing existing 100% owned underground mining facilities and practices at several operating and sites on standby to improve efficiency and production into the future.  The incumbent will be responsible for mine planning, production, and maintenance scheduling, mine infrastructure design and capital justification. The role will work closely with personnel and outside consultants to further define the mineral resource and geologic models as necessary and lead the development and operations of various mine plans at potentially a variety of mine sites as economic incentives present.  The incumbent will work closely with senior management in Denver as well as site-based personnel in evaluating alternatives for deriving the maximum value for each project.  Strong leadership skills are necessary for the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Underground mine planning and design.
  • Prepare (or assist with) cost estimates and budgets for active mine projects as well as those being considered for development with supporting reports.
  • Design of underground mine development, blasting systems, ventilation systems, ground support systems, production stopes and haulage systems.
  • Ensure the effective maintenance and ongoing validity of the geologic database.
  • Work with geologists and metallurgists to evaluate varying ore deposit characteristics.
  • Development of a geologic model and mine plan.
  • Utilize computer applications in mine modeling and design.
  • Design, develop, and implement computer applications in mine design, mine modeling, mapping, and the ongoing monitoring of mine conditions.
  • Work with mine personnel to implement and coordinate mine safety programs.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work in a team environment is essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering; five years' experience in producing underground mines and practical underground mine experience is essential to this role.
  • Advanced computer skills in Excel and other administrative software.
  • Well qualified with 3d mine modeling software (Vulcan or 2-4d, Minesight, Surpac software) is a major plus.
  • Experience with underground mine planning, particularly selective mine planning, would be a major plus.
  • Skilled in managing both small to large/complex projects.
  • Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

  • Travel in western US will be required; work schedules may vary depending on requirements.
  • Capable of unaccompanied field work in remote locations may be required.
